    Brazilian Artist;

Jacinta Baptista:

Jacira said: "I come from a family of sculptors, as my grandfather was a renowned artist and a professor at Recife's School of Fine Arts. People referred to his house as the "house of sculptures;" in the garden alone there were four of his great sculptures. When I was a little girl, I used to play at making mud sculptures at my grandfather's studio.¨

As stated above, Jacira gives an insight on her artistic roots. The roots however didn't really produce any fruitful art until she attended Maria Thereza Vieira's studio and discovered the different techniques for sculpting and design which was a deep contrast to her family's traditional and rather academic style.

Jacira is a very feminine artist, no doubt influenced by her grandfather's work - as a girl she was surrounded by female art images sculpted by her grandather.

Jacira has exhibited at Rio de Janeiro's Museum of Modern Art as well as in Europe. She currently considers three pieces honoring Zumbi, king of the Palmares as her most important work.
